See why women over 45 are ditching the injection
Every week, I see patients who were prescribed a GLP-1 injection with no real assessment of whether it was appropriate for them. They come to me after months of side effects, no clear explanation, and no next step.
This is not a rare case. It’s the majority. And in most of these cases, there was a more effective, safer starting point available the entire time – one the pharmaceutical industry has very little incentive to talk about.
I’m sharing the story of Julia so more women would be aware of this.

Let me just say upfront: I was fully on the Ozempic train.
Despite eating less and exercising, I had gained 47 pounds after my husband’s death.
I guess that’s what stress and grief do to you.
So when I saw Ozempic before-and-afters, and my friend who lost 20 pounds in two months, I thought it was finally my chance to feel like myself again.
I basically begged my GP to get me a prescription, and he got it for me.
The nausea hit within the first week.
The kind where you cancel plans, eat crackers for dinner, and spend every car ride mentally mapping the nearest bathroom.
When I did eat, stomach cramps followed.
My energy crashed so hard that leaving the house for anything beyond work felt impossible.
I lost weight, sure. I was finally fitting into skirts I’d buried in my closet years ago.
Too bad I had nowhere to wear them.
When I finally told my GP I was stopping, I left with no real explanation and no clear next step.
So I did what anyone in a post-Ozempic spiral does: spent two weeks down researching rabbit holes at 11pm, got thoroughly confused, and booked an appointment with an endocrinologist.
Best decision I made.

I visited endocrinologist Dr. Sylvia Goldberg.
Within the first ten minutes, she explained why I probably shouldn’t have been on Ozempic in the first place.
What followed was a breakdown I wish I’d had before any of this started.
GLP-1 is a hormone your gut releases after you eat. It tells your brain you’re full, slows digestion, and keeps blood sugar stable.
Researchers figured out how to mimic with injections, and that’s how the Ozempic boom started.
However, what the pharmaceutical industry would rather you never find out is that there are three ways to stimulate it, and the injection is the most profitable one.

#1
Weight loss injections (Ozempic, Wegovy)
While this method is effective in helping you lose weight, the side effects are impossible to ignore.
Beyond the nausea – extremely common, not just my experience – there are reports of muscle loss, thyroid concerns, and a weight rebound pattern.
In other words, once you stop the injection due to price or side effects, the weight comes back.
#2
GLP-1 supplements
“There’s some biological plausibility to certain ingredients. But the gap between ‘affects GLP-1 in a study’ and ‘changes your appetite’ is large – and most products aren’t clearing it,” explained Dr. Goldberg.
They also don’t have to prove they work before hitting shelves.
Which means you can never be sure what you’re getting.

The GLP-1 protocol that nobody talks about
I’d never heard of this before. But when Dr. Goldberg explained it, it immediately made sense.
Your body’s GLP-1 response is individual. The same meal can trigger a strong hormonal response in one person and almost nothing in another. A protocol built around your specific response teaches your body to produce the hormone on its own.
It’s much safer than injections and faster than a diet.
And if you’re already on an injection, it doesn’t interfere – it actually helps manage the symptoms that make most people quit.
“The traditional route,” she explained, “means finding a specialized dietitian, weeks of assessments, and constant back-and-forth adjustments.”
Effective but slow, and expensive enough that most people abandon it before seeing results.
“But there’s something new that bypasses all that.”
She’d started referring patients to it after personally reviewing the research and results.
“You complete a short quiz, and a fully personalized GLP-1 protocol is built around you – meals, recipes, timing, and no calorie counting,” Dr. Goldberg said.
It’s designed to trigger your body’s own hormone response, whether you’re on an injection or not.
“Either way, the results come faster than any standard diet. Because you’re finally working with your biology.”

Take the quiz →I took the quiz that same evening. It took about two minutes.
The plan I got back was nothing as I expected.
It wasn’t a food list or a calorie target but a full week of meals I actually wanted to eat and built around my GLP-1 response.
An actual protocol.
Three weeks in, my energy is back, and I can maintain an amazing figure without a single side effect.
I’m fitting into those skirts again, but this time, I have the energy to wear them.

“Most people who struggle with weight were never given the right information.
GLP-1 is a hormone your body already produces.
The research on stimulating it naturally has existed for years, but there’s just very little financial incentive to make it accessible.
